Irene Verheijen is an attorney specialized in administrative law and regulated markets where the interaction between the authorities and business community plays an important role. She advises businesses in the field of compliance with Dutch and European laws and regulations. She concentrates on the gaming sector, among others. In addition, she litigates on behalf of these businesses in administrative proceedings against the authorities. This could, for instance, relate to licence allocation, administrative enforcement, publication of documents and data, and governmental liability.
Irene studied in Leiden and at the Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, United States of America. She started her legal career at the OPTA, a supervisory body for the telecommunications sector. She switched to the practice of law in 2002. In 2010 she became a partner at a medium-sized law firm in Amsterdam, heading the Regulated Market and Government Practice Group. Irene has been a partner at Legaltree since 2013 and with effect from 2017 she is also associated with Kalff Katz Franssen as a consulting expert.
Irene has authored several publications. She is an active member of various professional associations, both national and international. Irene is regularly invited to courses, conferences or seminars as visiting lecturer or guest speaker.
